The four chapters cover the struggle for women’s voting rights in the United States, and why voting equality is so vital. Women’s right to vote was known as the suffrage movement. A Map of the Events denotes the status of woman’s suffrage laws in each respective state before the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1919. This amendment guaranteed that voting rights cannot be withheld based on gender. Black and white photographs and other illustrations supplement the text. Sidebars throughout the text add relevant data. A Timeline notes the status of suffrage from 1700 to 1920. A section titled, Resources, suggests books and a Scholastic Web site for more information on women’s right to vote. The Glossary defines relevant terms.
