Matt Randall's friends are away for the summer and he is bored. One day the mail carrier hands him a postcard with a clue that is written in rhyme and unsigned. In need of help, Matt reluctantly enlists the class dweeb, David. The clues eventually lead Matt and David to old Mr. Grubb's haunted house. When Mr. Grubb leaves, the boys enter his spooky house. Mr. Grubb returns and finds Matt and David in his home and gives them carte blanche to play computer games on his state of the art computer. Book one in Stinson's trilogy is a simple and fun adventure story for children. Young readers will learn some of life's lessons while reading this title--Matt's preconceived opinions about David and Mr. Grubb are incorrect, Matt's negative thoughts regarding his hometown improve, and Matt learns that accusations without all the facts are painful. Youngsters will enjoy trying to figure out who is behind the clues, and will be amused by Matt and David's predicaments. This first title in the "Streetlights" series reminds the reader to be a good friend.
