YASHODA'S DOG
Yashoda's story begins when, after three years in an orphanage in India, she finds herself quite unexpectedly the subject of an adoption offer. At six years of age she must make the momentous decision of whether to go with perfect strangers who want to take her with them to America.
Once transplanted to a city in Alabama, Yashoda must adapt to life as an immigrant in a strange land. Her home, her school and her community are unlike anything she has ever known.
To ease the loneliness that Yashoda feels as a result of being an only child, she and her parents adopt a dog from an animal shelter. The dog, named Chance by Yashoda, has massive difficulty adjusting to the demands of Yashoda's parents. In the process Chance helps to teach Yashoda and her parents’ vital lessons about fairness, love and trust.
