Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal

Gr 4–7—Gordon Korman reprises the characters he wrote with such success in Swindle (2008) in this action-packed, humorous sequel (2009, both Scholastic). Savannah, 11, is devastated when her beloved monkey, Cleo, is kidnapped and placed in a stinking, floating zoo run by two shysters. Her friend Griffin assembles a team (reminiscent of Mission Impossible) to get the creature out of her prison. Each member of the group brings their special talent: Ben can fit into small spaces, Pitch can climb anything, Logan excels at acting, and Melissa is the resident computer whiz. After rescuing Cleo, the team decides to liberate all the animals and then must break into the Long Island Zoo to ensure proper homes for them. Jonathan Todd Ross creates s distinct voice for each character and the pace zips along to a satisfying conclusion. Fans of the first book will clamor for this sequel, but it also easily stands alone.—Tricia Melgaard, Centennial Middle School, Broken Arrow, OK
