Ellen Glasgow (1873–1945) was a novelist, poet, and short story writer. Coming from a prominent Virginia family, she was a pillar of Richmond society. Despite this, she continued to publish unconventional fiction, with feminist and progressive themes. She was awarded the 1942 Pulitzer Prize for fiction for her last novel, This Is Our Life.
