Previously released in Australia, this lovely collection of projects harks from down under—Nathan, an author and professional woodworker, is the former copublisher of the Australian Wood Review magazine. The designs include trays, tables, storage, and cabinets. There are a number of beautiful pieces not seen in other collections; some of the tables show a distinct Asian influence and are unusual. Skill with a wide selection of woodworking tools is assumed, as is technique and facility with special applications, so none of these plans are appropriate for novices. The book's organization is progressive, and large photographs highlight detail work, but the instruction is text-based. While a cutting list is included, a full catalog of equipment and supplies would be handy. Native Australian woods are used without recommendations for substitution. VERDICT Skilled woodworkers will appreciate this collection. Nathan is clearly passionate about design and materials, and it shows in the instruction. A solid choice where the serious woodworker needs something different.
