Home Lace-Making. A Handbook for Teachers and Pupils. PREFACE. The aim of this manual is not primarily to teach individuals how to make lace - although doubtless they could learn by means of it - but to help those who can make lace to teach others to do so, and, more especially, to teach a class of some numbers. The following directions may be a help to those who are interested in teaching handicrafts. It is always a great source of pleasure to the children, and it is very useful craft to teach in elementary or continuation schools, for cultivating concentration, neat-handedness, and intelligence. The patterns in this book are progressive. After learning these, anyone of average intelligence should be able to pick up any Torchon pattern without help. This book was originally published in 1906. Many of the earliest books on weaving, textiles and needlework, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. We are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.
