Life happens. Faith weakens. Temptations attack. Satan oppresses. Needs overwhelm. Sickness comes. Finances disappear. Divorce looms. Loneliness suffocates.
Decisions paralyze. Worries strangle. Friends betray. Careers stall.

The challenges of life confront us all. You cannot cancel your appointment with trouble.
And you do not know when pain will show up in your life. Just be sure it's coming.
There is nothing you can do to stop it.

That's the bad news. Here is the good news. You may not be able to control what happens to you in life, but you can control how you respond. This is the wonderful benefit of the Christian life. To trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord does not bring an end to all of your troubles, no matter what some high-profile religious personalities falsely teach.
To the contrary, following Christ will produce trials that you would never face otherwise (John 16:33; Acts 14:22; 2 Tim. 3:12).

    Christianity is a battleground,
not a playground. But faith in God ensures that you will never have to stand and fight alone (Eph. 6:10-20). The believer can live with the assurance that the Lord is there (Ps. 46:1). And the presence of our divine Ally provides sufficient resources for every struggle you face.

I repeat. There is nothing you can do to stop bad things from happening in your life. But you can determine your response.

You can love those who hate you.

You can bless those who persecute you.

You can turn the other cheek.

You can go the second mile.

You can forgive those who offend you seven times in one day.

    You can be steadfast, immovable,
and always abounding in the work of the Lord.

You can overcome evil with good.

You can count it all joy when you meet trials of various kinds.

You can give thanks in all circumstances.

What People are Saying About This

    From the Publisher

Reading "It Happens After Prayer" is like plugging your prayer life into an electrical socket. You will walk away motivated and inspired by the truths of Scripture about the centrality of our prayer lives.

Bryan Carter, Senior Pastor, Concord Church, Dallas

In a day when people have reduced prayer to skillful negotiation and a means of manipulating the will of God, Pastor Charles makes it clear that prayer is mysteriously simple—and to this contemporary generation that we can set up a cyber space cafe and a chat room with God anywhere.

Dr. Melvin V. Wade Sr., Senior Pastor, Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Los Angeles

    H. B. Charles encourages all Christians to pray with the confident belief that God hears and answers prayer in his book, It Happens After Prayer. Pastor Charles is not only one of the profound and powerful preachers of his generation, but he has proven to be equally persuasive with 'pen' in hand. He writes with not only a commitment to biblical accuracy, but also as a loving and experienced pastor. Read this book, and your prayer life won't be the same!

Dr. Maurice Watson, Senior Pastor of Beulahland Bible Church, Macon, Georgia

Pastor Charles is a man of prayer. This and his knowledge of God’s Word shine through this book. He is faithful to the text as well as practical in his presentation. If you want to understand what the Bible says about prayer this book is for you. It is for you if you want to apply such knowledge to your personal life. Studying to share with others about prayer, H.B.’s work will be an extreme help.

George E. Hurtt, Senior-Pastor of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, Los Angeles, California

We can't control the disasters of life, but we can control how we respond to life's challenges. Job loss, natural disasters, crime and so many other difficulties plague the lives of believers. So, what do we do when facing tragedies and triumphs?
We pray. And then we pray some more. Looking at various principles throughout the
Bible, Pastor H.B. Charles writes a passionate and masterful treatise on the topic of prayer and the importance this discipline must have in the life of every Christian.
