John Masefield (1878-1967) was an English poet and novelist. He worked for the Red Cross most of his life. He is best known today for the classic children's fantasy novels The Midnight Folk (1927) and The Box of Delights (1935), as well as his memorable poetry. Masefield was appointed Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom in 1930, a position he held until his death.
