Rachel Walker and Kirsty Tate are having fun at their neighborhood block party when they notice something mysterious happening: prizes from the carnival games are broken or spoiled. They girls quickly deduce that a goblin is at work. Where there are goblins, the girls reason, there must also be fairies. Sure enough, Rachel and Kirsty find Jasmine, the Present Fairy, also flitting around their block party. The girls already know that it is Fairy King Oberon and Fairy Queen Titania's one thousandth anniversary, and Jack Frost is angry that no one remembered his five hundredth birthday. Jack has sent his mischievous goblins to steal the fairies' party bags so the celebrations for the king and queen's anniversary can't go on. A nasty green goblin has been sent by Jack Frost to the block party to steal Jasmine's party bag. Quick thinking by Rachel and Kirsty stops the goblin at the block party and help save the fairy realm celebration. In gratitude, Jasmine brings the girls to the anniversary party, where they are transformed into fairy-sized party guests, and given fantastic fairy makeovers. When the girls leave the fairy realm, they are each given party bags full of fairy-specific gifts. This is the final book in the seven-book "Party Fairy" series. Each book in the series features a particular fairy with a particular task for the king and queen's anniversary party. The language and plot of the book are accessible for readers who have recently moved beyond four- or five- word sentences. Because the book was originally published in England, some syntax and word choices may be slightly unfamiliar to American readers. Young readers who still like to play pretend, dress up, and enjoy the idea of fairy parties will embrace this series. Recommended for ages 6 to 9. Reviewer: Lauri Berkenkamp
