The author was born and raised in southeastern Virginia and graduated with a B.A. in English Literature, Phi Beta Kappa, from U.C. Berkeley, and later from the College of William and Mary with a Ph.D. Photojournalism jobs after Berkeley resulted in published articles and two photographs with a by-line in Newsweek, and writing and photography for the in-house magazine, Bank's World, circulated to Bank missions worldwide by The World Bank headquarters in Washington, D. C. During doctoral study at the College of William and Mary, the author conducted tours of the Sir Christopher Wren Building on the historic campus and worked as Historical Interpreter and as School Groups Tour Guide for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation. In the rigorous Interpreter and Tour Guide training, a love of the stories of history was imparted, and acquired, and there followed at Colonial Williamsburg, for a Berkeley Lit major, a feast of historical tours and story-telling where professional story-tellers imparted the fascination and drama of history in evening programs by candlelight in the great historic houses.
