Kate worked on research ships, raised caterpillars, and patted a killer whale before starting to write for children. She hopes young readers find friends in her books. Kate lives with her family in Granville, Ohio.

Tammie Lyon first discovered her love of drawing at the kitchen table with her father. After pursuing a career as a professional ballet dancer, Tammie attended Columbus College of Art and Design, where she earned her BFA. Children's Literature - Carol Mitchell
In this title, the Saturday Triplets decide to spend their Saturday pretending to be in school. They gather their stuffed animals and their cat to make up the students and each of the triplets takes a turn being the teacher. One triplet teaches a little social studies, one gives a class in math and phonics, and the third starts a lesson in telling the time. Then they have a lunch break, and even lay food out for the stuffed animals. They soon decide that they miss the participation from live students in class and agree that actual school is much more fun. The book ends on Monday morning with the children enjoying their real kindergarten class. The text is very simple, short sentences with repeated phrases and ideas, just right for the intended level of Pre-K to first graders. Children will enjoy the illustrations, which portray the triplets as fun, active children. Readers should come away with the idea that school and learning in general is fun. Reviewer: Carol Mitchell; Ages 3 to 5.

K-Gr 2—These easy-to-read titles are written with repetitive text and controlled vocabulary, much like most leveled readers. Each story begins with Saturday-morning breakfast as triplets Ana, Bella, and Carlos decide what to do for the day. They play and work together, solving problems as they arise, while enjoying one another's company. In the first book, the triplets can not find their cat after working together to rake a big pile of leaves. They guess that Boo is in the leaves and look for him, but find him in the nearest tree instead. In the second book, they each want to do something different at the Pumpkin Fair. Their parents instruct them to stay together, but Ana wants to go on a ride, Bella wants to find the horses, and Carlos wants to listen to music. Luckily, they find the perfect compromise on the merry-go-round. In the third book, the kids play school at home and carry their joy for learning to the classroom on Monday. Soft cartoon illustrations might help young readers become more independent as the visual cues closely align with the texts. The stories are logical and thoughtful and will appeal to a wide range of youngsters.—Lindsay Persohn, University of South Florida, Tampa
