"How often do you begin reading a book that makes you—immediately, urgently, desperately—want to read more books?” (Booklist). Nick Hornby has managed to write just such a book in this hilarious, insightful, and infectious volume. Ten Years in the Tub chronicles Hornby's journey through a decade’s worth of books, as related in his wildly popular Believer column “Stuff I’ve Been Reading.”

Ten Years in the Tub is a one-way ticket into the mind of one of the most beloved contemporary writers on his favorite pastime, but it's also a meditation on what Celine Dion can teach us about ourselves, a warning about how John Updike can ruin our sex lives, and a recommendation for the way Body Shop Vanilla Shower Gel can add excitement to our days. This "decade-long addiction for many... makes standing in line at the bank a blessed interval for snorting another page.” (the New York Times Book Review)

In one of his recent "Stuff I've Been Reading" reviews in The Believer, Nick Hornby writes that the writer of an autobiography is writing for his fans; the writer of a memoir is writing to create new ones. By his level of fame then, we can conclude that these very personal first-personal reviews are written for his legion of UK and US fans. But wait! Enjoyment of this new collection of his Believer essays requires absolutely no previous history with its robust, eccentric author. Whether Hornby is ruminating about Patti Smith, Charles Dickens, Elizabeth Bishop, John Updike, or the World Cup, he communicates his passion and often surprising insights with a winning informality. Champions League quality on either side of the Lake; now in trade paperback.

The New York Times Book Review - Regina Marler
Consider it a charitable act from one reader to another, or the ravings of a book-mad woman who was once pulled over for reading while driving, but this review is a naked plea for everyone to get Ten Years in the Tub…Honest, funny, garrulous and nimble-witted, Hornby makes standing in line at the bank a blessed interval for snorting another page.
