The French Riviera, 1954. In an imperfect age the perfect crime. And for the man who masterminded the looting of the Nice bank of its gold and silver---and its even more valuable secrets—it was not just a crime, it was a work of art. But it magnetized the city. It caused headlines and bankruptcies, drew in mobsters and petty players, a corrupt millionaire, the CIA, a beautiful woman. For the dogged French detective who was handed the case it was something to live for, and the act of violent bravado became the ultimate human drama: man against man, criminal against cop. “Very considerable power and deeply satisfying substance.” –The New Yorker
