The final installment in Chris d'Lacey's NEW YORK TIMES bestselling Last Dragon Chronicles! Now in paperback!

David Rain and the Pennykettle dragons embark on their final adventure. . . .
On Earth, dragons and darklings are trapped in a bitter, unresolved conflict. But at the dawn of history, something is working to bring about a change. A mysterious force is rewriting timelines, turning what was once legend into startling reality. . . .
Under the control of the wicked sibyl Gwilanna, the evil Ix have taken over and infected all life-forms with their Shadow, creating a darkling army. Voss, the leader of the army, has captured and imprisoned Gawain, one of the last dragons in existence, and is using him to seek a dark energy buried in the heart of the Earth. Desperate to stop the Ix, the Pennykettle dragons summon David and Rosa, two mysterious travelers from the future, for help. But together, are they powerful enough to prevent Voss and the darkling army from destroying the world AND restore life as it should be?

"[T]he story, with its involving and thought-provoking plot full of clever little dragons, mystical polar bears, and spiritual and ecological aspects, will appeal to many fantasy lovers." --SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL

    Children's Literature - Toni Jourdan
Sometimes there's a story about a young boy named Agawin. He's raised by a seer and lives near the peak of Kasgarden where the dragon Galen has gone to shed its dying tear. This is only the beginning, middle and end in a book where the walls of time hold no substance. Evil comes in the forms of Sybyl's like Hilde and Gwilanna, then there's the darkling army led by Voss in search of the fraas (sparks emitted from a dying dragon's tear). As Agawin seeks vengeance for Grella's abduction he's helped by time travelers David and Rosa. Agawin seeks the truth of how he fits in. Sometimes he's falling off a mountain peak to his certain death and sometimes he's waking up in another time and place and sometimes he isn't even a boy. The Pennykettle dragons play important roles in this fantasy tale, especially Gadzooks, the dragon who can write. So many characters ride Gaia's roller coaster where we learn of the first ice bear, the core of the earth, realignment, portals, fains and a tapestry foretelling the future in carefully woven stitches. The final book in the "Last Dragon Chronicles" ties up loose ends left over from the other six books. Having not had the pleasure of reading any of the others, my brain was reeling from the many characters that are introduced, disappear and then reappear as another character or another moment lifetimes before and after. Yes, it can be confusing. Yes, I did mix up many of the G names and yes, I did enjoy every minute. I will now have to do like the many characters in the book and leap backwards or forwards into Book 1 to begin the adventure. Sometimes a reader must return to the start to grasp the future's past.
