Escaping from a Comanche raid that killed their parents, sixteen year old Sam Tollin and his strikingly beautiful thirteen year old sister Sarah, race to Tucson seeking help. Young and inexperienced, they become easy prey of ruthless men. Before they can get to the law or the army, their money is stolen and they are kidnapped and hauled off on a Mexican wagon train to be sold as slaves in Mexico.
However one of Sam's and Sarah's captors has made an enemy of Two Foxes, a Comanche warrior. Two Foxes stalks the wagon train seeking revenge on the Mexican. While killing his enemy, Two Foxes helps Sam to escape. Sam can not help Sarah escape and still escape himself. He vows to Sarah that he will return and rescue her. He leaves, filled with his need for vengeance against the Mexicans and to keep his vow to rescue his beloved sister. If he can survive long enough.
Following Two Foxes, Sam meets up with a hard bitten band of outlaws on a trek across the desert to California. Realizing he will need money and weapons, Sam joins the outlaws in their planned raid on the rich ranchos of California. Kept alive in the beginning within the brutal outlaw gang by the horribly disfigured gunman, Zimmer, Sam's perilous adventure forces a harsh education upon him to mature from an innocent boy into a hard-bitten, steel eyed young man. With his conversion to a skilled pistolero completed, Sam sets out to keep his vow of vengeance and to rescue the sister he was forced to abandon, and who is now held prisoner in a fortress rancho deep within Mexico.
From – THE SEARCHER:
Two Foxes picked up his rifle and canteen and climbed to his feet. "I must be going. I have many miles to travel and some men to meet."
He walked down the hill to catch his pony. Sam tagged along behind and then stood uncertain as to what to do as Two Foxes tightened the cinch of his saddle and shoved the bridle bit into the unwilling mouth of the horse. Two Foxes swung astride and rode off toward the water.
The Mexicans watching from below immediately guided their mounts toward Sam. He saw the threatening move and trotted to take up station a few steps to the rear of Two Foxes. He was going exactly in the wrong direction. However, if he tried to return to the river, the Mexicans with their guns would kill him.
Oh, God! Sarah, I can't help you. Please forgive me. I will return soon as I can. A sob constricted his throat. Tears blinded him and he tripped and almost fell. I will come and find you, I promise little sister.
