In an attempt to cash in on the success of the Charlie Chan and Mr Moto movies, Monogram hired Boris Karloff to play Hugh Wiley's Detective James Lee Wong character from Collier's magazine. Boris Karloff played the character in 5 movies. Keye Luke (famous for playing Charlie Chan's #1 son) played the character in the 6th movie.
Hugh Wiley wrote short stories for The Saturday Evening Post, Collier's, Argosy, Blue Book and many others. As well as a few novels.
