In this umpteenth spinoff from the Geronimo Stilton publishing empire, Geronimo's sister, Thea, has inspired a fan group of young mice who name themselves the Thea Sisters in her honor. The five Thea Sisters are off to New York City as Nicky represents Mouseford Academy in the Big Apple marathon; the others come along to cheer her on against her rival, Rhonda Razorpaws. Lodging with one mouse's family in their Tribeca apartment over the family pizza parlor, the friends find themselves presented with a mystery: who is the mysterious "Phoenix" who is threatening to burn down all the stores in the neighborhood? And does he have any connection to sinister Marty McWhiskers, who is offering to purchase all the threatened properties at fire-sale prices? Well, yes, it turns out that he does. In case the mystery weren't already easy enough to solve, each clue is highlighted with big red letters—CLUE!—and every few pages all the accumulated clues are summarized. The characters in this mouse world, completely identical to the human world except for occasional mentions of "rodent" and "paws" tossed in, are pictured as having human form, human clothes, and human hair, topped off with repellent rodent faces for a decidedly bizarre and repulsive appearance. That said, the New York City setting is depicted in informative detail, and fans of the series should root for this team of supportive friends as they take a big bite out of the Big Apple.
