Parents may appreciate this story more than kids may. Todd is really excited and every time he sees something of interest he says "Look Mom." He carries a yellow box around, but doesn't seem to put anything in it. Mostly the dialogue is Todd exploring the world around him and his mother trying to get him to hurry up to get on their way. In the end when they finally reach the bus, Todd gives his mother the box and inside we see all the wonderful things that he has collected. The short, uncomplicated story ends and is followed by a few pages of activities. One raises discussion issues. Then there is a brief description of the author and illustrator along with photographs of each. The closing spread provides tips to help children become readers and describes why the series is a good choice and lists other titles at this level. Part of the "Green Light Readers" series, a Level 1 book—getting ready to read with emphasis on simple words, rhyme and rhythm and familiar situations. 2004, Harcourt, and Ages 4 to 6.
