Children's Literature - Carrie Hane Hung
In this activity book children will use an erasable marker to practice writing upper and lower case letters along with number words and numerals from one to ten. They have the opportunity to write the letter(s) in a word. For example, the child may practice tracing the upper and lower case form of the letter “E,” forming the letters independently on the space provided, and then tracing the ‘e’ in the beginning, middle, and/or end of a word (i.e. egg, bed, and beetle). Color photographs illustrate every page with items associated with the letter. Following the alphabet activity is practice for numbers. Both the word and numeral form are presented for practice. Children may count the objects like the three shells, five flowers, or eight buttons that are in the pictures. A marker is included with the book; however, a cloth to wipe/erase is needed to clear the page for later practice. Supervision may be needed to support the child with their efforts to write. Part of the “Scholastic Early Learners” series. Reviewer: Carrie Hane Hung; Ages 3 to 6.
