Ice cold, refreshing ice cream! Delicious alone, or with several toppings at a time, ice cream is everybody's favorite dessert. But how is it made? Ice cream is made from milk. A farmer milks the cows. The milk flows through tubes into a tank where it is cooled. Trucks take the tanks to an ice cream factory. The milk is cleaned and tested, then put into a vat. Sugar is added to make the milk sweet. The ice cream mix is heated to kill germs, then cooled. Flavors like chocolate and strawberry are added. Air is stirred in to make the soft ice cream fluffy. The ice cream is squirted into boxes, then put into a deep freeze to make it hard and ready to ship to stores. The author did a great job of using pictures and words in easy-to-read sentences, making this book a fun read. Parents and children can read it together. The child can study the pictures, while the parent reads, or they can take turns reading and looking at the pictures: either way, it is a great way to learn something new.
