About the Author

The Reys were born in Hamburg, Germany. Hans Augusto Rey (1898-1977) met his wife-to-be, Margret (1906-1996), at a party in her father’s home in Germany; when he first caught a glimpse of her, she was sliding down the banister. In their twenties and thirties they lived in Paris and in Rio de Janeiro, where Hans sold bathtubs in villages along the Amazon River. Eventually Cambridge, Massachusetts, became the Reys’ home and community. Throughout their lives the Reys created many lively books together, including SPOTTY, PRETZEL, and lift-the-flap books such as HOW DO YOU GET THERE? The manuscript of the first Curious George books was one of the few items the Reys carried with them on their bicycles when they escaped from Paris in 1940. Eventually, they made their way to the United States, and CURIOUS GEORGE was published in 1941. Their incorrigible little monkey has become an American icon, selling millions of books and capturing the hearts of readers everywhere. CURIOUS GEORGE has been published in many languages, including French, German, Japanese, Afrikaans, and Norwegian. Curious George wreaks his usual havoc in the library in this bilingual installment of the popular series. When the man with the yellow hat drops George off at the library, George tries to sit patiently and listen during story hour. But his interest in the dinosaur book behind the librarian is too strong and finally, he can't wait any longer and grabs it. On his way to check it out, other books on his favorite topics catch his eye. When he has a pile bigger than he can handle, he discovers a book cart, which allows him to stack up even more books until even the cart is full. Luckily, the library's ramp leads right out the door, but the cart crashes into a shelf before he makes it out of the library and his books fly everywhere. Other children come to the rescue by borrowing some of George's books and soon only a small pile of his books remain. George gets his own library card, checks out his books, and waves goodbye to his new friends from the library. The satisfying ending shows George and the man in the yellow hat on a comfy chair sharing the dinosaur book that unleashed the mayhem. The Spanish translation follows the English text in blue on each page. The illustrations nicely capture George's mischievous actions, and young children will delight in Curious George's library adventure. Librarians and teachers will find the book a lively introduction to using the library.
