About the Author

Epictetus (c. AD 55—135) was born into slavery in Anatolia (modern Turkey) but gained his freedom and moved to the coast of Greece, where he opened a school of philosophy.

Robert Dobbin is the author of Epictetus Discourses: Book One as well as articles on Virgil, Plato, and Pythagoras.
