The Templars may be unfamiliar to American audiences, but Spanish filmgoers are all too familiar with this creepy contingent. A coterie of blind priests who flourished during medieval times, the Templars are said to arise from the dead and wander zombielike around the countryside whenever their tombs are defiled. That's just what happens in Night of the Death Cult. Despite a traditionally Spanish overemphasis on gory scenes (especially those involving facial disfigurement), the film is surprisingly austere compared to others of the genre. Night of the Death Cult is well worth your time, but not after a heavy dinner.
