Purpose: It is intended as a practical, easily accessible guide to the management of all emergency situations in anesthesia. As such, it is a valuable, pocket-sized aid for anesthesia practitioners.
Audience: It will be useful to anesthesia trainees and consultants as well as to other professionals involved in perioperative patient care, including operating room personnel. Anesthesia trainees will find it valuable in their preparation for examinations. The editors have called on the expertise of broad range of authors.
Features: The first part of the book is organized based on the major anesthesia specialties. The second part contains chapters addressing emergencies outside of the operating room, occurring in the recovery room or emergency department, as well as emergency situations related to equipment problems and performance of variety of practical procedures. The chapters are organized in a consistent, bulleted format allowing for fast, easy access to useful information. Each chapter contains a description of the presentation of the emergency and the immediate management concerns followed by further management, risk factors, and other considerations. The most critical information is highlighted in red text boxes. The format inevitably limits the number of illustrations and their quality. Drawings, photos, and ultrasound images enhance the didactic value of the book.
