Author Biography: CHARLES C. ALEXANDER, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of History at Ohio University, has published several important works of American intellectual and cultural history in addition to his other acclaimed baseball books—John McGraw, Our Game: An American Baseball History, Rogers Hornsby: A Biography, and Breaking the Slump: Baseball in the Depression Era. He is currently working on a biography of Tris Speaker for SMU Press.

Charles C. Alexander is Professor of History at Ohio University. He is the author of a number of books including Here the Country Lies: Nationalism and the Arts in Twentieth-Century America and Holding the Line: The Eisenhower Era.
