In the third book in the "George Brown: Class Clown" series, the reluctant class clown George Brown continues to try to behave at his new school, hoping to avoid the reputation for goofing off that he had gained at his previous school. He continues to fail, which is entirely the fault of his magic, uncontrollable "super burps" which cause him to lose control of his body and do things that kids find funny but adults see as misbehavior. In this book, George tries to raise money for a toy that an older boy at school has bought and gets caught up in several money-raising schemes, such as working in his mom's store, putting on circus with his friends, and breeding hamsters. All of his schemes fail, mostly because of the super burp. In the end, George and his friends discover that the toy is not worth purchasing anyway when the older boy's toy breaks and so George learns to be grateful for the super burp, for once, which stopped him from wasting his money. He also, perhaps, learns that the things he did with his friends along the way were more than the fun than playing with the toy would have been. George is a good-natured and likeable character and his likeable cast of friends, which includes both girls and boys, add to the book's appeal and ensure that these books will be enjoyed by both male and female readers. This humorous book will be highly appealing to early chapter book readers, who will spend the book anxiously awaiting the next inappropriately-timed super burp.
