God loves us just the way we are, and He wants us to love each other, too! That's what Mr. Henry wants kids to learn as he retells these stories from the Bible: the Good Samaritan, Jesus and the disciples, and Jesus and the little children. In his own wacky way, Mr. Henry teaches some of the most important principles of helping one another.

Gr 1-6-Christian author and storyteller Frank Peretti plays the inventor, Mr. Henry, who introduces the concept of helpfulness to viewers through an animated story about the Good Samaritan, a dramatization of Moses and the Amalekites, other Scriptural references, a bluegrass song, and games and puzzles. Mr. Henry is aided by the animated objects in his shop-a fish, a stuffed shark, a moose head, and a knight's armor, as well as by the visiting mailman. The program is very similar to the BBC production Noddy's Toyshop, and also reminiscent of PBS's Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, in which live characters use animation to tell a story that relates to the point they are making. Peretti does a remarkable job of portraying a variety of characters using different voices. Adults may find the quick pace and repetition jarring, but children will adore the wackiness of it all. Peretti succeeds in showing different ways of being helpful, and its importance. This series will appeal children who have outgrown Veggie Tales and will be suitable in Christian classrooms.-Cynthia Grabke, Thayer Public Library, Braintree, MA Copyright 2003 Cahners Business Information.
