Thomas Hardy (1840-1928) was a prominent English author of the Victorian period. Although he considered himself to be primarily a poet, Hardy's greatest literary and financial successes were achieved through his novels. He penned nearly two dozen novels, several compilations of poems, and dozens of short stories.
